“Trash the Dress”
So what the hell is “Trash the Dress” (or as its commonly referred to TTD ) I hear you asking, well it’s a style of photography that originated in America and has slowly found its self a home in Australia, but we have added our unique style to it.
When you “Trash a Dress” you don’t have to damage it, in fact the first 2 dress trashing I did both just washed there dressed afterwards in the washing machine and they were fine.
So what Is it…? The original concept was for trashing wedding dressed, but it doesn’t have to be a wedding dress, it can be any kind of clothing, in fact it doesn’t even have to be clothing, it could be anything, car, bike caravan ect, ect.
What it gives you is the opportunity to get some very different images, taken in locations that you normally wouldn’t go too to take formal photographs. This can be a river, forest, ocean, grave yard anywhere that you want.
The following are some things that you should consider before you start to get trashed.
1. How much do you want to "trash" your dress? A bit of dirt, sand, water, mud, rust or fully destroys your dress.
2. What sort of photos do you want? The theme of your shoot is an important factor when selecting location.
3. As with selecting a wedding photographer for your special day, you need to make sure your photographer is in tune with what you are hoping to get out of the shoot, its not every day you get married, nor is it every day you “Trash a dress” so just as importantly as a wedding photographer you need to select them wisely.
The following galleries give some examples of what sort of images can be achieved with a little planning. Dress trashing should be fun, It’s a lot of fun to shoot and according to my models so far it’s a lot of fun to pose for.
